Map-based journaling for iPhone. Capture every experience with GPS location, 100 categories and photos. Pay once — €4.99. Yours forever.
Free up to 100 entries · Unlock unlimited for €4.99 once · iOS 17+
Many journaling apps have switched to subscription pricing. If you're looking for a journaling app without a subscription that still covers all the features you care about — you've come to the right place.
€34.99 per year adds up quickly. A journaling app is a personal tool — something you should own, not rent. Remember lets you pay once and use it for as long as you want.
Journaling is about more than what you did — it's about where you were. Remember places every entry as a pin on an interactive Apple Maps view, so you can literally see your life as a map.
Remember is made in Munich, Germany. All data is stored locally on your iPhone. There is no US-based cloud server, no advertising profile, and no data monetization. Fully GDPR compliant.
A factual look at what both apps offer. No marketing fluff — just the features that matter for daily journaling.

Remember was designed from the ground up for location-aware journaling. Every feature reflects one belief: the place matters as much as the memory.
Every journal entry becomes a pin on an interactive Apple Maps view. Zoom out and see all your adventures at once — cities visited, hikes completed, restaurants tried. Your life becomes a map you can explore.
Choose from over 100 activity categories — from hiking and travel to cooking, concerts, and quiet evenings at home. Every kind of experience has a home in Remember. Filter, sort and rediscover your entries by what you were doing.
Pay once and own Remember forever. The free version supports up to 100 entries so you can try the full experience before committing. When you unlock unlimited access, it costs €4.99 — once. No annual renewals, no price increases, no surprise charges.

Hi, I'm Florian — an indie iOS developer from Murnau am Staffelsee, a small town near Munich. I've been keeping a journal on and off for years, but I always found myself wanting something that the existing apps couldn't give me: a way to see not just what I did, but where.
I travel a lot within Germany and Europe — weekend hikes in the Alps, spontaneous road trips, city weekends with friends. After a while, my journal entries started blurring together. I'd write about a great hike, but couldn't remember exactly which trail it was. I'd log a restaurant, but forget which city I was in. What I needed wasn't just text — I needed a map.
So I built Remember. Every entry is tied to a GPS location, and all your entries show up as pins on an interactive Apple Maps view. You can zoom out and see your entire life as a map — and then zoom in on any place and find every memory you created there.
I also made a deliberate decision not to use a subscription model. I find subscription pricing for personal tools increasingly frustrating. A journaling app is something intimate — something you use every day to record your life. It should feel like something you own, not something you rent. Remember costs €4.99 once. That's it. Future updates are included. There are no annual renewals.
Remember is a one-person indie project, built and maintained by me alone. If you have feedback, a feature request, or a bug report, you can email me directly at support@remember-journal.com — and I'll actually read and reply. That's the kind of indie product I want to build, and the kind of app I'd want to use myself.
Everything Day One users want to know before switching to a journaling app without a subscription.
There is currently no direct import from Day One into Remember. Remember uses a different data structure built around GPS locations, activity categories and map pins — it's a fundamentally different approach to journaling. Most users start fresh in Remember and find it a welcome new chapter. Your existing Day One entries remain accessible in Day One at any time — you don't have to delete or lose anything.
Yes. Remember uses Apple iCloud to sync your data across your devices if iCloud Drive is enabled. This means your entries are backed up automatically without any third-party server involved. Everything stays within Apple's ecosystem, which is GDPR compliant. There is no separate Remember account, no Remember cloud, and no data sent to our servers — because we don't have any.
Remember is currently iPhone-only (iOS 17+). A Mac companion app is on the roadmap. For now, the focus is making the iPhone experience exceptional — location-based journaling naturally belongs in your pocket. You always have your phone with you when you experience something; you can't say the same about your laptop.
Privacy is a core part of Remember's design. The app is made by an indie developer in Germany and is fully GDPR compliant. All journal data is stored locally on your iPhone. There is no advertising, no behavioral tracking, no analytics selling your data to third parties, and no account creation required. The only optional data sharing is Apple iCloud sync — and that's controlled entirely by your iPhone's iCloud settings.
This is a deliberate philosophy decision. Subscriptions create ongoing financial pressure that often pushes apps to add features you don't need — just to justify the monthly cost. Remember is built on the belief that a journaling app should be something you own. Pay once, use forever. If a truly major new version ever requires a new purchase, you'll be informed well in advance and have the choice. There are no surprise charges and no automatic renewals.
Yes, completely. You pay €4.99 once through the App Store and Remember Unlimited is yours without any recurring charges. The free version supports up to 100 entries, which is enough to genuinely evaluate the app. The one-time upgrade unlocks unlimited entries forever. There are no monthly fees, no annual renewals, no premium tier above Unlimited, and no in-app advertising.
The app will notify you when you approach the limit and offer the one-time unlock. You can still view and edit all your existing entries at any time — nothing is deleted or locked away. You simply can't add new entries until you unlock unlimited access. 100 entries is a meaningful amount — it covers several months of regular journaling and gives you a real sense of whether Remember fits your daily routine.
Yes. Remember includes export functionality that lets you save your journal as PDF or CSV. This means your memories are never locked into a proprietary format — you always own your data in a form you can read, print, share or import elsewhere. Data portability is important, especially for something as personal as a journal.
Yes, mostly. You can create entries, write text, add photos, assign categories and record GPS coordinates entirely offline. The map view requires an internet connection to load map tiles from Apple Maps. GPS location recording works without internet. When you come back online, iCloud sync happens automatically in the background without you having to do anything.
Yes. Remember is actively developed by Florian Klepper. Updates are released regularly and include bug fixes, performance improvements and new features. As a one-person indie project, development moves at a thoughtful pace — quality over quantity. You can always reach the developer directly at support@remember-journal.com with feedback, feature requests, or bug reports. Responses are personal, not automated.
